F.A.Q.
What most people ask.
They can grow up to three stories high. The size we recommend you planting is around 2.3 meters tall, as by then they have developed a root system that with water and fertiliser, can double when planted with the right conditions.
The thing we love about mast trees is that they make one large tap root. They are the most amazing trees at growing in a small confined space.
Mast trees get their name from their initial use, which was “ship masts”. They were used because they grew tall and were both strong and flexible. They make fantastic wind breaks and headgings.
Mast trees are the most wonderful things for garden maintenence as they are one of the few trees in the world whose branches grow downward, they drop their leaves at the bottom of the tree rather than all around the yard like most trees. Depending on how high you want them to grow, you may have to have the tops chopped out of them every three years, which is a very simple job.
If you want a complete headge coverage, they must be planted one metre apart. However, if you just want to use them for style and shade, it is entirely up to you.
